Khori's 3D Flower Art

Khori has been very busy lately. This was Khori's first attempt at a 3D painting using cardboard to make the flowers. They are layered on to make them POP out of the picture. Khori also learnt how to roll the sellotape so that it could hide behind the cardboard where you wouldn't see it - this makes the overall effect neater. It's great to try out new ideas - it looks fabulous Khori.

Khori's Prank

Khori's prank has been inspiring lots of children in Kohara. This looks like an ordinary tissue box, and they look like ordinary tissues poking out the top until... you go to grab one and find out it's paper!! Khori had to measure the size of the tissues (paper) to make sure it fitted in the box - we have found out that many of our class projects use maths in different ways.

Lucy and Hannah's Iceblocks

Lucy and Hannah used science to make iceblocks. They needed a freezer to change the temperature to change their liquid into a solid! By all reports, they tasted delicious!!

Calendar Art
This can now be viewed in Kohara - you will find ours in the folder on top of the iPad cabinet, just to the right when you come in. Bolt the Lamb Visits Kohara

Yesterday Kohara had the opportunity to meet Bolt the lamb. Bolt is just three weeks old. Our favourite part was definitely patting Bolt and some lucky children even got a chance to give Bolt his bottle of milk. He gobbled it up pretty quickly!! We noticed that when Bolt was drinking, his wee tail wagged non stop. He must have been very happy, even though he was quite shy. Thanks to Mel and Gemma for organising the visit - it has inspired some fantastic writing!

Clay Creations with Nana Bev

We were lucky enough to have Lucy's Nana Bev come in to help this morning. Bev brought her clay in so some of the children could have a turn at making pinch pots. It looked like lots of fun!

Mathematicians!

Look at these mathematicians practising their addition and subtraction!

Bella and Ella's Playground

How amazing is this playground! We think we would LOVE to play here. There are so many exciting things to play on - a sandpit, a climbing frame, a basketball hoop (with a basketball), a see saw and a swing. We love how Bella and Ella have made the swing and see saw so that they can move and how they used plasticine to create the buckets and spades and basketball. What a quality project!

Week 7 (4-8 September)

Welcome to Week 7 :)

School Photos
This Wednesday 6 September is school photo day. Please send children to school with their red polo shirts of possible please. Sibling photos can be booked via the school website.

Reading Book returns
We would love any volunteers to help out once a week to put our reading books away in the book room. This involves sorting the books into piles of the same colour levels and then returning them to the individual boxes in the reading room. We are happy to show you what to do if you are interested and can spare half an hour during the week.

Handwriting
We are focusing on handwriting this term and are really working hard on getting children to form the lower case letters correctly, starting in the correct place and making each letter as one fluid motion.
Many of our letters start the same way.
For example c, o, a, d, g, q all start with 'open mouth' which is a 'c' shape.
n, m, h, r and b, all begin with either a short or a tall stick, then a tunnel (or half a tunnel for 'r')
i, l, t, j, k, all begin with a short or a tall stick.

Practising lower case letters at home would be most beneficial to the children as once they are confident with forming letters correctly, it takes the cognitive load off when writing ideas and spelling words, as their energy then goes into the writing rather than the handwriting. A few minutes once a week to write out the lower case alphabet is a great way to practise letter formations, particularly when done regularly. We are also focusing on using correct pencil grip.

The Big Event
Don't forget to purchase your tickets for the Big Event as it is coming up fast on the 15th September! You can buy these from the office at $25 a ticket which includes supper.

Lunch Clubs
Monday: French Club and Chess Club (all levels welcome)
Tuesday: Craft Club
Thursday: Art Club

Library Books
Please return these before Friday to our class library containers.

Poetry Folders
These go in our green baskets in the Room 19 end when they come back to school please.

Spelling
It is great to see children showing great progress in learning their words each week. Ka pai to those remembering to bring their books on a Thursday for testing, and getting new words for the following week.

Lost Property
Our lost property box at the hall is overflowing especially with a pile of winter jackets and jerseys. If your child has mislaid theirs, please pop in and have a look (in the foyer of the school hall).

Have a great week :)
