Oscar and Siale-Maia planned and baked a delicious banana cake. This was a great opportunity to follow a recipe, use measurement skills, and then use their creative skills to decorate the cake with their favourite pictures and characters.

Senior Athletics on Thursday Afternoon
Kohara will be walking down to St James Park tomorrow to join the senior students for lunch and to watch the senior sprint finals and relay races. We will only have 8 children participating in our class relay race so the majority of children will be there to support their friends. We will leave school approximately 12.10pm and return by 3pm.
Please send junior children to school in uniform.

Maths With Babies!
In Kohara we know that Mrs Campbell will steal a baby for a cuddle whenever she gets a chance so imagine our surprise when she borrowed two babies at once!!! Mrs Campbell tells us she was just doing some maths with them - getting Kohara to try and to work out their ages (counting and looking at months in a year) but secretly we just think she wanted a snuggle!
Thanks to George and Bodhi for being so obliging :)

Tom the Teacher
Tom enjoyed sharing his new skill with Kohara - taking small groups outside throughout the day to show them how to work it. The children had lots of fun and we have found it takes lots of practise to get the hang of it! This means we have to be resilient and persevere even when it doesn't always go as planned and be hopeful that we will get the hang of it eventually! This links so well with our Health & PE topic this term which is looking at Being our Best Possible Self by exploring concepts of Hope, Efficacy, Resilience and Optimism. Thanks Tom for sharing this with us.
A Day in the Library!
We had an unexpected day in the library (Tuesday) as Kohara was having new heat-pumps installed in our rooms. The children coped very well with a change in routine and luckily we had Kapa Haka and Room 19 also had PE with Mr Lukes to break up a very wet day inside. We are back to usual on Wednesday.
Please note the children had a poem to read to you for reading tonight instead of a reading book.
Please return poetry folders to Kohara - these go in the green containers ready for Friday please.

Tennis
We are hoping to reschedule our final tennis session - we will update you once we have a confirmed day/time.
Senior Athletics
On Thursday afternoon we will be joining the senior school at St James Park for lunch and then to watch the class relays in the afternoon. Kohara will be entering two relay teams (4 girls and 4 boys) - we are just waiting for the rain to go away so we can finalise our teams. We will be walking there and back. You are welcome to join us down there. Fingers crossed for better weather.
St John's Visit
St John's is visiting school on Wednesday and Kohara will attend a session during the morning on Responding in an Emergency. There is no cost but if you would like to make a donation to the ambulance service you are welcome to send a gold coin along tomorrow. We will split the class with half the children attending at 9am and the other half at 9.45am.

The Tarantula by Lochie
The Tarantula
I like tarantulas. It is very very scary. Tarantulas are very poisonous. They can kill you. The tarantulas venom will go into you. The poison makes your skin die. The smallest tarantula is 11cm and the biggest tarantula is 28cm. The biggest tarantula is as big as my arm.

Cailee the Artist
Cailee was inspired by our canvas art projects last term and decided that she wanted to plan an art project around the same idea. This is her first finished canvas. Cailee knew exactly what colours she needed for the rainbow and was able to mix the right shades she needed for lots of the colours.
Did you know that the name ROY G BIV helps you remember the order of the rainbow?
Red
Orange
Yellow
Green
Blue
Indigo
Violet
Cailee sketched her ideas first to practise her painting techniques and then did her finished copy on the canvas. We think it looks wonderful!

Pippa, Ruby And Luca Bake a Cake
Check out this amazing looking cake that Pippa, Luca and Ruby made last week. They had a clear idea about how they wanted to decorate it and were very organised in getting their ingredients sorted for their project. At the end the girls worked out they needed to share the cake in thirds so that each of them got an equal amount. Can you think of anything at home that you might share in thirds? What symbol would you need to use for one third? Can you find the symbol on a measuring container at home?
Plasticine Creations
Lately some of our Kohara children have been enjoying creating with the plasticine. There have been some intricate details added to all kinds of animals, monsters and characters. Here is a sample for you to enjoy :)
Block Challenge
Check out this amazing collaborative tennis court that the children made on the block challenge last week. It has so much thought and detail in it - there are big screen tvs, stadium seating, tunnel entranceway, court area and lights! It was fabulous to hear the conversations, problem solving, sharing of ideas and see cooperation in action. After the photo was taken there were even more additions - including tennis players from clever sticks.
Well done Kohara!
Well done Kohara!
Sport Suzy
Last week we had Sport Suzy kick off the ignition for our PE and Health term. This term we are looking at "Being the Best Possible Me". We will be learning to build on our strengths of hope, efficacy, resilience and optimism and apply these skills across a range of health and PE activities over the term.
Tennis Fun
We had so much fun at our first tennis lesson even though it was so hot! Check out the photos of the children in action! Even Olly had a go!
